This is the Boring Bible Blog, a blog about a little project I’ve cooked up that I like to call the Boring Bible. I’m another one of those far-too-many people working away on some obscure corner of the internet at producing a new edition of the Bible in English.

I’d like to think that my own little project is different in its own humble way. In particular, this translation aims to be boring.

There are countless people who are unqualified for the effort of producing a Bible translation, and I am one of them. So, whenever I possibly can, I aim to defer to the consensus of scholarship and produce translation choicest that are in agreement with the qualified scholars.

I’d like to see a translation of the Bible that is (1) in the public domain, (2) part of the common lineage of English Bible translation that included the KJV, RV, and ASV, and (3) reflects the conclusions of mainstream biblical scholarship, rather than the idiosyncrasies of any particular person or sect.

This is, of course, a tall order, and I certainly can’t produce such a thing from scratch. But what I think I can do is take the nearest thing to this ideal that I’ve found so far — the World English Bible — and push it a bit in the direction I’d like to see.

Why do I want to see such a translation? I’m not quite sure. It’s an idea that’s rattled around in my head since about 2006. And although I am in no way qualified to produce such a thing, I’ve yet to see any qualified people who are working at the task.

So I’m poking away at it, bit by bit, and documenting the work here in case any other nerds with highly unusual interests find this sort of thing interesting.
